The Philae Lander Wants its Time in the Sun

As you might imagine, we are as fascinated with Rosetta’s success as are any of the scientists that have worked on or observed this mission for the last 10-plus years. It’s as riveting a thriller as any sci-fi movie—only this isn’t made of the stuff of someone’s imagination (well, it was at some point!). It is now a reality and made, in part, of material we handle every day at American Durafilm: Kapton® film.

Resealable FEP Duralok™ Bags and Non-stick Storage

Posted by Mack Hendrick on Dec 8, 2017 12:58:20 PM

FEP Duralok™–A waste-free, storage solution for viscous, greasy, and/or sticky samples

Handling any kind of lab sample requires caution, the right lab equipment, and extreme precision on the part of the lab technician to maintain the integrity of the sample as well as the accuracy of results. A lot of this depends on the nature of the sample–it’s form being the most essential property to be mindful of. Viscous or sticky materials, and liquid and gas samples require more care and watchfulness than a sample that’s in solid or powder form.

How Fluoropolymer Coating Helps with Electrical Insulation

Posted by Jon Goodwin on Apr 7, 2017 3:15:28 PM

Coating Products Offer Superior Quality and Reliability as Insulators

First, let’s have a quick review of fluoropolymer coatings. You are probably familiar with the most widely known properties of fluoropolymer coatings:

  • Non-stick
  • Low friction
  • Non-wetting
  • Thermal stability
  • Electrical insulation
  • Chemical resistance

You might be aware of the many ways choosing the right coatings can improve outputs and overall product performance. When you use the correct selection and application of a fluoropolymer coating, you can add significant value to your parts.

Introducing Resealable FEP Duralok™ Bags for Caustic or Critical Lab Samples!

Posted by Mack Hendrick on Jan 23, 2017 6:05:37 PM

Solving a 50-Year-Old Problem

Once you put your critical or caustic sample inside your field sample bag, how do you close it?

Perhaps you’ve been using the standard protocol of either a clamp made of some other material, or have invested in expensive heat-sealing equipment that requires time, training, and resources to operate. Either option creates an extra step in your process, can present a rash of problems, and is inconvenient to use.

Part 3 of 3: The Case of the Teflon®-Coated Piano Wire and Cookie Dough

What relationship could a piano wire possibly have with cookie dough, you ask? None—if it’s just an ordinary piano wire. On the other hand, a Teflon®-coated piano wire has everything to do with one company’s cookie making success.

Part 2 of 3: From Flat to Fizzy—the Role of Teflon® Coatings in Carbonation Measurement

How satisfying is it to hear the distinct hissing sound escape a can of soda as you crack open your favorite beverage after a long day of work! The fizz that you’re about to relish next is in fact a by-product of our Teflon® coating of an entire assembly for a part that measures the carbonation (gas content).

Part 1 of 3: What Does Your Waffle Have to Do with Our Teflon® Coating?

To put it very briefly, the answer to that question is … everything.

Chemours™ (formerly DuPont) Teflon® industrial coating is very popular with the food processing industry because of its release properties and high-temperature resistance. If not for the Teflon® coating that goes on the waffle mold or tray, your waffles might not taste the same or pop out as perfectly (and crunchy) as they currently do—resulting in the needless trashing of so many waffles! The same goes for all your ice-cream cones and muffins.

Sandblasting Unit to Prep for Fluoropolymer Coating Doubles Capacity and Halves Recovery Time

Posted by Jon Goodwin on Aug 26, 2016 12:10:59 PM

American Durafilm® Adds New Vacuum Recovery System

American Durafilm® recently added a new vacuum recovery system that not only doubles the capacity of the sandblaster, but also halves the recovery time while prepping customer parts for fluoropolymer coatings. The new unit will also allow for more accurate grit blasting and will significantly reduce processing time for customer orders during the preparatory phase. With the addition of the new system, we are looking at cutting down lead times, reducing rejects, and decreasing potential damage to surfaces that are to be prepped for fluoropolymer coating.
